A new chapter in the Middle East’s design landscape is taking shape. Alserkal, the Dubai-based cultural enterprise behind Alserkal Avenue, and Design Miami, one of the world’s most influential forums for collectible design, have announced a multi-year partnership that will introduce Design Miami to the region for the first time.
The collaboration will debut in early 2027 with a flagship event in Dubai supported by year-round programming focused on collectible design from the Middle East and beyond.
“Alserkal’s partnership with the Design Miami brand is of global significance,” Founder of Alserkal, Abdelmonem Bin Eisa Alserkal said in a statement.
“By triangulating Dubai with Design Miami’s platforms in Miami and Paris, we have created a powerful network driven by our shared values. From today onwards, we are united in a single, forward -looking design vision.”
The alliance brings together two organisations that have each spent the past two decades shaping contemporary culture in different contexts. Design Miami built its reputation through its global fairs in Miami Beach and Paris, convening leading galleries, collectors, and practitioners. Alserkal has grown from the transformation of a former industrial site into a cultural district that has become a touchstone for art, design, and creative practice in the UAE.
The new partnership aims to merge these trajectories, creating a platform rooted in the region’s design histories and cultural narratives, while remaining connected to international networks. This balance is central to the long-term strategy, which includes public programming, learning opportunities, and community-driven initiatives designed to nurture a sustainable ecosystem for collectible design across the Middle East.
From Alserkal’s perspective, the move is a natural extension of the cultural groundwork the organisation has laid over the past fifteen years. Executive Director Vilma Jurkute notes that the region is ready for a dedicated platform of this scale and focus.
“Partnering with Design Miami to launch this Middle Eastern debut is a natural trajectory not only for us as institutions, but for the cultural landscape we are part of,” she said.
“Alserkal has been instrumental in developing MENA’s arts ecosystem and its publics over the past 15 years, and we see design as the next chapter in that growth. Our layered approach allows us to challenge the conventional through the diversity of forums and narratives we co-present.”
Design Miami’s leadership echoed this sense of alignment. CEO Jen Roberts highlighted Alserkal’s role in shaping Dubai’s creative district, adding that the partnership offers a chance to demonstrate that design operates as a global language.
“Together, we can create a meaningful platform that celebrates both the region’s cultural heritage while highlighting its spirit of innovation, a platform to connect the global networks of collectors and designers we have built over the years,” she said.
Chairman Jesse Lee also described the moment as pivotal: “This partnership marks a key moment for both our brands, combining Design Miami’s two decades of expertise with Alserkal’s pivotal role in the cultural landscape of Dubai.”
The arrival of Design Miami is the latest sign of the UAE’s accelerating presence within the global art and design circuit. It follows a year of major announcements, including the transformation of Abu Dhabi Art into Frieze Abu Dhabi, set to launch in 2026. Also in Abu Dhabi, the Natural History Museum opened its doors on 22 November, offering the largest natural-history institution in the region, followed by the Zayed National Museum’s official opening on 3 December.
Meanwhile, the long-awaited Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, designed by Frank Gehry, remains scheduled to open in 2026, promising one of the largest contemporary-art spaces in the region.
Together these developments illustrate how the UAE is crafting a dense network of world-class institutions, fairs, and events spanning history, nature, design and contemporary art built to connect local audiences and international visitors alike.
The partnership between Alserkal and Design Miami can now be seen not just as a stand-alone initiative, but as part of a larger cultural ecosystem taking shape across the Gulf one where regional creativity increasingly speaks on a global stage.
